About Us
Nandi by Banaras is the culmination of a 30-year journey in textiles, one that began with Mr. Amitabh Sharma’s long-standing experience in exporting India’s finest weaves across the world. But with every shipment sent overseas, one thought stayed constant: beautiful textiles feel incomplete until they find a home with our own people too. That realization sparked the beginning of something more personal.
Mrs. Sunita Sharma, born and raised in Varanasi, the very city where these crafts originate took the reins to build a space that honoured the slowness of handloom. With an instinctive eye for colour, an innate understanding of motifs, and a deep emotional connection to Banarasi weaving, she opened a boutique in a quiet Jaipur neighbourhood, a hidden gem, almost secret by design.
Introducing silk-rich, handwoven Banarasi textiles to Jaipur wasn't simple. The city was accustomed to lighter, more familiar aesthetics; and the idea of bringing traditionally opulent Banarasi weaves into a new landscape faced resistance. But as time passed, something beautiful unfolded.
The discerning lovers of craft, women who had been searching for authenticity, intention, and hand-intensive artistry, found their way to the boutique. Word spread quietly, from one admirer of handloom to another. Those who cherished the intricacy of Banarasi weaving finally found someone local who understood the craft at its core.
For years, Nandi by Banaras remained intentionally offline, a choice made to preserve the essence of slow craft. But slowly, a gentle, persistent request emerged:
“Please make your work accessible. Let more people experience this beauty.”It came from clients, from their friends, and from families who believed these textiles deserved a wider world. And so, with a shared dream and a childlike excitement that still fuels them, Amitabh and Sunita, partners in life and in craft, are ready to bring Nandi by Banaras beyond the walls of their Jaipur atelier.
